Thursday, July 7, Part IV - 2 straw houses

Today we have a new batch of the mixture to put on the walls.  It is easier to look back on aiding in building a straw house now and laugh at the uncomfortable moments.  It's quite a messy and frustrating.  I'm afraid my first wall didn't come out right, so I stayed at the job after everyone else had left, but I'm not sure if I got it completely right.  And of course it must be done right.

Joe is such a hard worker, putting his heart into every movement.  I had graduated to using gloves, but he is still using his bare hands.

Josh from California has joined Dominique's crew.

Here he is also documenting his trip.

The samples from Tuesday have had some time to dry and it is time to apply the mixture that has been deemed the best one to use in the attic.  Here Annelise and Dominique work in a VERY small space spreading the last coat.  You can see the texture to the right still shows the straw.  After the last coat, everything should be super smooth and the wood between the mud and straw mixture will be washed and beautifully finished.  Pierlo's wife Sandrine has asked for the attic for her office.  She is not as tall as I am so perhaps she will not be uncomfortable here.  It will certainly be a large room, but with quite a low ceiling.

Here Dominique and Annelise volunteer to do the dishes.  The procedure here is to wash and then store right away in the shelves on the left.  I don't think they were quite ready for the picture, but I like it that way.  Something not too posed.  You can see how much fun we had even though the work was difficult.

I guess the day was so busy I didn't have too much time for pictures.
