Monday, July 18 - Part XII - building 2 straw houses

It's Monday we are on our way to pick up Pierlo in Castillon.  The car climbs the hill better if it doesn't have too many people in it (that is to say, unless Pierlo is driving).  So, Rico, Marthe, and I walk up the hill and Joe picks us up after the turn.

Look at the contrast where the sun is strong and there are shadows in the hills where the sun hasn't yet reached.

The latest Wwoofer has arrived - Magda.  Magda is originally from Poland but married a man from Belgium and still lives in Belgium.  She is not as old as I am but still prefers not to go up on the house.  She has been here several times and has seen Dominique's house from its beginnings.  When she comes back she concentrates on the garden.  Though all of us here have put some time into the garden, there are still places where there's a lot of digging to do.  When she arrived, she stowed her bag in the tent, put on her boots, and went right out to work.  She brought lots of chocolate with her and Dominique shared it with us Wwoofers.

Before we left on Saturday we learned that the big day for the arrival of the crane would not be until next Thursday after all.  So, at least today's pace can be without pressure.  Those who had been working on the house also discovered there were a couple of mistakes (described in Friday's blog).  In the three pictures that follow, you can see how the ladder in the scaffolding has become "part of the structure."

Today Marguerite and her friend come riding in on their horses.

This woman and her daughter are part of one of the families who share the garden.

Magda and I are on KP duty today.

As things are cooking, I take another look on the wall next to the bed in the Wwoofers' quarters.  There is a lovely composite picture of the family including the elder son who doesn't live at home any more.

I'm not sure, but this detailed drawing of the site of the new home may have been done by Marguerite.  I saw her drawing several times while I was there.  I really LOVE it!
