Sunday, July 17 - resting in the Pyrenees

Everyone else slept late (Rico slept all day and then all afternoon and then all night)!  Of course, it's understandable given that he has been hitchhiking for 6 months!  I took a walk up the hill from the house.  I mentioned earlier that the house is on a dead end rural "path."  The ascent here is gradual, but later it gets steeper.

Even in cloudy weather the view is beautiful!

This is the top of the hill and then there is a curve where the Mayor of Castillon lives.  He is the one who owns the donkeys, Robert and Margo.  Pierlo has been letting him use one of Pierlo's fields for them. Now that Marion has the horse, the boundaries of the fields have been reset (see one of my earlier blogs).  Here we are looking down on the small straw house where Ana, Joe, and now Marthe sleep.

I keep going up the steep part of the road and find it has gotten a little easier after all the physical work I've been doing.

Most of the places on this short road are people who will or currently already use them for retirement homes.  There is at least one working farm.

The valley through a different lens.

Still going up.

Looking back toward Pierlo's but his place is around a sharp corner and not visible.

Looking across toward Castillon.

Most everyone else took a long hike (too long and difficult for me) together on Sunday.
